U7 & U8 PlayOn! Series
Make it fun.
Make it fast.
Make it Player Centered.
In the rawest form, soccer is a pick up game, played in the streets, with a ball and a few kids.
It’s this simplicity that makes soccer a timeless and universal sport. Children world-wide make discoveries and gain insights into the game by playing. It's often said, "the game is the best teacher." We think it's time to actually make that so.
Welcome to L30 & the PlayOn! Series, a program built to develop players’ abilities through a smaller version of the game that we love so well. The Play Day and PlayOn! events tap into the age specific characteristics of U7 & U8 players.
Kids quickly change their focus, these short sided games are fast paced and fun.
Live in the moment - 2v2 and 3v3 games demand that players be involved and experience every moment.
Player-centered environments allow players to self organize - lots of touches & time with the ball at their feet feeds their inner enjoyment of playing.
Decisions in these games belong to the child and the repetition and opportunities to problem solve are vast. Think rapid fire, trial, error & adapt.
All of this combined develops confidence, initiative, improved skill with the ball, intelligence with and without the ball, coordination with movement, resiliency and problem solving.
So what does this look like & how will it work?
Create a team with 3 or 23. The numbers don’t really matter. What does matter is that you have a group of kids that want to have fun, be challenged and grow as individual players. No more not being able to take a player because your “roster” is full OR not being able to make a team because you only have 4 players not 5. (Note: L30 U7/8 PlayOn! teams can elect to register for what has been known in the past as the Region 2 YDL Academy Program. To inquire about this program, email League30reg@gmail.com)
Team Coach & Assistant
Each team will need ONE adult to be the designated Coach and a 2nd person to be the Team Assistant. Safe Player practices require that there always be two adults at all times with your team. In a pinch a parent can fill a spot, but we prefer that those regularly in charge of team functions be registered volunteers. The Coach and Team Assistant will complete the following training:
- CDC Concussion Training (free, online, 30 min course, save pdf to computer & upload during Affinity registration)
- US Soccer Introduction to Grassroots Coaching (free, online at https://dcc.ussoccer.com, 20 min course)
- US Soccer Grassroots 4v4 Online Course ($25, online at https://dcc.ussoccer.com, 2 hour course)
- Email 4v4 Online Course completion certification to firstname.lastname@example.org
Weekly Team Training
Each Team can elect to have a weekly team training or not based on the needs of their players/parents. Each coach will receive 12 training sessions as part of their 4v4 online course. L30 will provide additional 1v1 and 2v2 sample training sessions as supplemental coaching resources to use or not use. We don't dictate what your training sessions look like, but if you would like resources so you don't have to re-invent the wheel yourself - we are happy to help.
Weekly Group Game Days
Group Game Days give players an opportunity to play unfamiliar competition and experiment with concepts that you have been working on in Team Training via varying player formats - 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 over the course of the year. No referees, no scoring and only light guidance coaching at these events allow players to experiment with what they have been learning at your trainings.
Game Days wil be Wednesdays, August (about when school starts) - October and March (middle of month when the ground is hopefully not as squishy) - May, but the final determination will be based on the number of teams. The locations will be customized to the geographic locations of the teams that register. Our goal is not have you drive more than 20 -30 minutes to enjoy a 1.5 hour Game Day once a week. (P.S. We won't have Game Days the weeks we have PlayOn! Events.). For a complete schedule of events, locations & times consult the Sports Engine Calendar for your team. In the upper right hand corner of this website, click on SportsEngine TeamCenter or ask your Coach/Team Manager how to get plugged in.)

PlayOn! Series EVENTS - 8 events over the year
Eight times a year we will gather with like minded organizations, teams & coaches in a community event. Think street soccer meets community celebration. Games will be played 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4. Players will rotate to play different opponents, much like the weekly group game days but with kids from all over Davis-Weber Counties & beyond.
Oh, and as a bonus, since parents will be on hand - we’ll have educational programs or Q&As with experts in youth player development to make this a win-win for everyone in the family.

Uniforms are provided and include 2 jerseys, one short, & one pair of socks. This is intended to be a convenience for teams that are just getting started, making it easier for you to concentrate on coaching with less administrative hassles. If you have your heart set on a specific uniform for your cute U7/8 group, just let us know and you can order whatever you want.
YOU’RE NOT ALONE
L30 has an entire pool of coaches (some new and some seasoned) to network with, train together, or just grab a cup of coffee with to talk about how things are going if you want. Every new adventure brings with it opportunities and challenges. L30 is here to help as you embrace the USSF Grassroots Soccer Pathway. It’s different than how we grew up being coached. And you know what? That’s okay.
